Focus Your Oral Health Care on Dental Anxiety

Posted .

Have you ever been afraid of visiting your dentist or nervous about the thought of coming in for an oral health care procedure? If so, you may suffer from what is known as dental anxiety. Dental anxiety refers to stresses or concerns with visiting your dentist. Dental anxiety can range from fear associated with noises, unknown treatments, or even the fear of pain during oral health care procedures.

If you find yourself suffering from anxiety, the best thing you can do is tell your dentist. Our team has many treatments and procedures in place to help relax our patients to ensure they have the best possible experience while receiving the best possible treatment. Furthermore, there are a number of methods to help prepare you for a visit to your dentist office.

It is important to work on your breathing to help calm and relax your body and mind. You can do this by breathing slowly and deeply and counting your breaths. Furthermore, relaxing music, meditation, squeezing a stress ball, and asking questions have all been highly effective at lowering or eliminating dental anxiety. If you would like a local anesthetic or sedative to assist you with your oral health care treatments, speak with your dentist to administer the proper treatments.

For additional assistance with dental anxiety, Dr. Alan Kessler and our team at London Bridge Smiles are here to give you the smile you desire. If you would like to set up an appointment to come see us at our dentist office in Virginia Beach, Virginia, please call us at 757-340-8805 to speak with a member of our team.
