What to Expect at Your Dental Cleanings and Exams

Posted .

Dental cleanings and exams are vital for your oral health, which is why it’s strongly recommended to visit your dentist every six months. If you have an appointment coming up, our dental team is so excited to help you maintain the strong oral health and smile you deserve!

To help you get ready for your appointment, we would like to explain the different steps of your treatment.

First, you’ll receive a dental cleaning and exam. When you are comfortable in our dental chair and you’re ready for your cleaning, your hygienist will deeply clean your teeth with special tools and techniques. They will first start by scraping the surfaces of your teeth to remove the substances that threaten your smile. This technique will remove the plaque and tartar from your smile, which will help you prevent gum disease. Then, they will briefly check your mouth for any signs of trouble. Next, they will floss the crevices of your smile and free any food particles, plaque, and tartar that live between your teeth. Finally, they will polish your chompers with a polishing treatment, which will remove the surface stains from your smile.

To end your appointment, Dr. Alan Kessler will visit you and ask you about any concerns you might have for your teeth and gums. Then, he will examine your mouth and look for any signs of tooth decay, gum disease, enamel erosion, and even oral cancer. If he sees any trouble spots, he will give you the advice you need to strengthen your teeth and gums. Then, if he finds any dental issues, he will discuss your treatment options with you.

As you can see, your six-month checkups will be easy and extremely beneficial.
